Rare original CDV, 4″ x 2.5″, in very good antique condition with some light mount edge wear. This is a difficult to find Eisenmann image. Condition: Image looks good, although there is some moisture related condition issues, including some waviness to the mount and separation of the paper layers of the mount, in the bottom 1/3 or the image or so. RARE CIRCUS CDV – “EGYPTIAN PRINCESS” CIRCASSIAN WOMAN ON SWING – BY EISENMANN – You are considering one of the rare African women who took on the role of a Circassian Beauty during a time when this act was primarily dominated by white and an albino performers. Billed as the “Egyptian Princess” her portraits are quite rare to find. In this wonderful CDV Charles Eisenmann captured her in a playfully posed on a swing in his studio. Eisenman’s stamp can be seen below the photo and on the reverse of the mount. A great addition for your American Circus photo collection. Barnum Circus and Side Shows. It was said that she weighed 718 pounds! The card is 6 1/2″ x 4 3/16″. This is stamped on the back “Big Hattie”. The red tint to some of the images is NOT on the photo. I don’t recognize the pair and could not find another example of this image online, as hard as I tried. I picked up a decent sized collection of these sideshow people images. Quite a few were on this pink mount with blank backs. A note that was with the collection said that many were TEST SHOTS for the famous photographer Eisenmann. That might explain why I could not find other examples, and why the backs are blank.
