Very Rare Circus Sideshow Cabinet Photo Barnum's Unzie The Circassian Albino
VERY RARE CIRCUS SIDESHOW CABINET PHOTO – BARNUM’S “UNZIE” THE CIRCASSIAN ALBINO MAN – “Unzie” the Aboriginal Albino man was brought by P. Barnum to the United States and would become one of his long running sideshow attractions. Most likely one of the most famous of P. Barnum’s performers with Albinism in circus history. Unzie was a major sideshow attraction, but cabinet cards of him are rather rare to find today. The image is in superb antique condition and taken by the York Photo Gallery. CONDITION: Please view my detailed photos for the actual condition of the image and as part of my description. The print remains in excellent condition with only a few minor spots. The mount is also in very good condition with only one tiny bump to the bottom right corner. The photographer’s stamp appears on the front and the backside has no marks. A rare and top quality image for your 19th Century Circus collection.

I don’t recognize the pair and could not find another example of this image online, as hard as I tried. I picked up a decent sized collection of these sideshow people images. Quite a few were on this pink mount with blank backs. A note that was with the collection said that many were TEST SHOTS for the famous photographer Eisenmann. That might explain why I could not find other examples, and why the backs are blank.

VERY RARE Signed Antique Photo African American Minstrel Circus Wire Performer
Very rare photo of the Great Layton, an African American wire balancing performer in the late 1800s and early 1900s, shown here doing his act, with his advertising banner visible on the left. Layton appears to have signed the back of the photo in ink. I couldn’t find much info about him after that time. This is the only cabinet photo I have ever seen for sale of this performer. It was probably one of a small handful made as part of a promo for a small show. This listing shows a scan of an article I found online.
