Antique German Celluloid Zoo Circus Animals Wood & Wire Cage Leopards Bear
Antique German Celluloid Zoo Circus Animals Wood & Wire Cage Leopards Bear. Celluloid animals in a wood and metal wire cage. The cage does not open. Three animals in the cage that appear to be a bear and 2 leopards. These look like a German design but no marks on the piece that we can find. Piece was displayed in a cabinet but did get a little dusty. We cleaned some dust, but it could use more detailing. 6.5″ long x 2.5″ wide x 3.25 tall.

Frequently encountered, common and easy to find on the open market. All Measurements Are In Inches; Height Precedes Width. Here is an Absolutely Gorgeous & Mega-Ultra-Rare Antique Late 19th C. 1899 Sepia-Toned Chromolithograph Portrait Depicting an Untitled Majestic’Resting Lion’ (Detail), after an original painting by an unknown artist. From research, the portrait is a’detail’ (head turned right & front legs only) of a slightly larger scene which shows the whole animal laying down (Lion’s back end & legs curved around the rest of upper body & head, and are not visible) within a larger enclosure and turned right towards viewer. Interestingly, many of the’full scenes’ of the chromolitho back in the day were framed in various wooden frames with spindles/bars, and sometimes hinges & locks (in relief) added to give the 3-D illusion of the Lion resting in a zoo or circus cage. Other similar scenes, including pairs of lions or tigers, were sometimes done in the same’cage’ style. , appears printed lower-left in the image corner (tough to see in dark corner area) See brief company history below. The Chromolitho is on a nice lighter-weight ivory-colored wove paper stock. Size & Condition: The size with tiny margins is 25″ x 21″, Image size is 24″ x 20″. The Chromolithograph is in Excellent Rare+ condition for its antique age with absolutely no color fade at all on this wonderful piece-bright, rich & fresh color! There are 18 extremely tiny outer margin edge tears around the 4-sides with only three that barely touch the image edge, but don’t extend into the image area (most of tears are 1/4 or less) and are all repaired from behind with archival tape for protection, and are all completely negligible since the outer margins can easily be matted & framed out. Extremely minimal & very light scattered tiny faint foxing specks & tiny spots scattered here & there on the sheet which are hardly even noticeable from the back (none noticeable in image area) and also aren’t really worth mentioning either. Minimal slight & very small crescent-creases scattered here & there in the image area which aren’t really that noticeable at all either (except mostly from behind) and other slight creasing scattered here & there in the outer margin areas and corners with associated dog-ear bends too (one tiny crease has added archival tape behind for strength), as well as very minimal outer margin edge-wear with some tiny dents & dings here & there- as previously mentioned, all outer margin issues are completely negligible since they can easily be matted/framed out. Very slight & minimal normal light toning of the paper stock from its antique age. This gorgeous antique chromolitho has never been framed which is always more desirable to collectors since it has never been exposed to older non-archival materials, matburn or lightfade.
