VERY RARE Signed Antique Photo African American Minstrel Circus Wire Performer
Very rare photo of the Great Layton, an African American wire balancing performer in the late 1800s and early 1900s, shown here doing his act, with his advertising banner visible on the left. Layton appears to have signed the back of the photo in ink. I couldn’t find much info about him after that time. This is the only cabinet photo I have ever seen for sale of this performer. It was probably one of a small handful made as part of a promo for a small show. This listing shows a scan of an article I found online. The clipping is shown in this listing for reference only, and the original article is not included. My scan shows the front and back of the same photo, plus the scan of the article. Image including its mount is approximately 4.5″ x 3.5″. This item is in the category “Collectibles\Photographic Images\Photographs”. The seller is “jack_mord” and is located in this country: US. Unusual Ooak Vintage Folk Art Rolling Wire Wheel Sculpture Signed 1985
A fascinating and unusual vintage folk art sculpture of a woman riding a man, fixed inside a rolling wire wheel. The man and woman are made of wood, the man’s legs are a thin metal, the woman’s hair appears to be a patch of animal fur. Paint is still vibrant although suffers some loss. The sculpture will roll but not in a sophisticated manner, when it does roll the man’s legs appear to move. It’s a wonky whimsical piece with a Calder, Chagall, David Lynch vibe. Measures approx: 10″ in diameter x 3″w In good/fair vintage condition, some paint loss, construction is rudimentary, some dust – see photos. Artist signed on the back of the woman’s head, dated 1985. One of a kind statement piece for sure! 10″ in diameter x 3″w. In good/fair vintage condition, some paint loss, construction is rudimentary, some dust – see photos. 1905 Signed Antique Porcelain Naked Nude Lady Figure Europa Bull Girl Hungary
Offered here for your consideration is an Art Deco Signed Hungarian Porcelain Figurine depicting Europa and the Bull. Breathtaking artwork of a huge bull with four naked woman and a big bouquet of roses. He was a legendary animal sculptor his animal sculptures are in British Museum – Natural History collection London. Several public statues in Budapest and in Buda castle. Read more about the artist in Wikipedia. This figure is in overall excellent condition compared the age, with no chips, cracks in the structure. At the age almost 120 years the glaze started to peel off. Most probably it was stored in a high humidity room, frozen in winters. 3 spots of the lost glaze has been repaired with cover paint: at the tail, the right side of the bull’s neck and the belly of the kneeling lady. One glaze loss spot is not covered yet, at the back of the kneeling lady. All of these spots are photographed on the last 4 photos. Signed on the base, but not dated, I have found the date of creation 1905 in his Wikipedia site at the list of his artworks. Height : 11-1/2 / 29 cms. Length : 11-1/2 / 29 cms. Width : 5-3/4 / 15,5 cms. This item is in the category “Collectibles\Decorative Collectibles\Sculptures & Figurines”. The seller is “kwanyin4444″ and is located in this country: HU.
