VERY RARE Signed Antique Photo Black African Ameridan Circus Performer Barnum
Very rare photo of the Great Layton, an African American wire balancing performer in the late 1800s and early 1900s, shown here doing his act, with his advertising banner visible on the left. Layton appears to have signed the back of the photo in ink. I couldn’t find much info about him after that time. This is the only cabinet photo I have ever seen for sale of this performer. It was probably one of a small handful made as part of a promo for a small show. This listing shows a scan of an article I found online. The clipping is shown in this listing for reference only, and the original article is not included. My scan shows the front and back of the same photo, plus the scan of the article. Image including its mount is approximately 4.5″ x 3.5″.

RARE Antique Circus Performer Paper Mache & Wood Figurine Toy
I have for sale an unusual late 19th century / early 20th century paper mache and wood figure. I couldn’t find anything else like it online. Also, it may be signed underneath. There looks to be two initials in pencil. Overall, the paper mache figure is in nice original condition. The only flaw I really noticed is on his side arm. The mache is splitting along the seam up down his arm. You can see an example of this in the (18th) photo above. Also, there is a little cracking to the paint under neck, but it is not to the mache, and a pin-hole to the top-back of his hat. I have provided just under (100) enlarged photos below to give you an extremely thorough look. A really cool and unique antique piece of paper mache. He reminds me of a circus performer, but I could be wrong. He has a small beard, great patina, and the colors are still nice and vibrant. The barrel he is standing on is made of wood. Lion Attacks Circus Performer in Cage, Large 1870s Antique Engraving Print
It depicts a lion who has just killed a beautiful woman circus performer as her boyfriend looks on from outside the cage. The caption reads: Le Lion Jaloux which roughly translates to: The jealous lion. It is very large (folio size), measuring approximately 10.5 x 14.5 inches (26.5 x 36.5 cm). The picture fills most of it, with a French caption below and text surrounding it. The page is in excellent condition for its age. There is text/photos on the back of the print.
