RARE Trick Circus or Sideshow Horse by Swords Bros 1800s Composite Photo
Rare circa 1890 composite cabinet card showing a circus horse doing tricks, and holding signs. The sign in the middle says, “I CAN DO ANY TRICK”. 6.5″ x 4.25″ with blank back, as produced. Very good vintage condition overall; there’s a little crack in the image on the right side but this is just on the photo, it does not affect the mount, and it’s stable and flat. A little light but perfectly visible.
1870’s-1880’s CIRCUS ACROBAT, CLOWN, OR POSSIBLY JESTER TINTYPE 3 1/2 x 2 3/8
Original circa 1870’s-1880’s tintype photo showing a man wearing a loose costume with diamond shaped decorations all over his costume. Also, he wears a tight cloth hat. From his outfit we are guessing that he was in the circus. We are thinking that he was probably an acrobat in the circus or a jester or clown. But, we are not certain. Measures 3 1/2 inches by 2 3/8 inches. There are a few minor flaws as usually found on most tintypes. The back shows minor age. There is a thin raised line below the man’s feet on the background. This is in the surface of the emulsion & occurred in the making. Otherwise, the front is very smooth & in nicer condition than most tintypes that are found. At the lower right edge area there is a lighter area in the photo. In the scan this looks like a small area missing off of the surface. But, in reality this is as made, & is a piece of cloth showing in the background when the photo was taken. This interesting photo came from an old Pennsylvania collection of tintypes which was formed over several decades. This item is inventory #9940. Is an estimate and the actual cost may differ. International Buyers – Please Note.
