ANTIQUE CRAZY QUILT w BARNUM & BAILEY PENNANT DATED 1909 & AMERICAN FLAG. This is a very unusual Crazy Quilt as it has a felt pennant with the words “Barnum & Bailey’s Greatest Show on Earth 1909″ in salmon colored felt with glued on glitter. It’s HAND PIECED by several different hands using cotton, silk, velvet and wool fabrics in various shapes placed in blocks with cotton fabrics as backing. Each piece is surrounded by Turkey Track stitching in different colors of embroidery floss. Several pieces have florals, and one piece has a small silk American flag attached with French knots. Many of the pieces have the initials of the makers. The edges of the quilt have treadle sewing machine stitching, but there is no binding, and a few velvet pieces have damage. The size is 86″ by 80″. A wonderful example of imagination and handwork. We sell only clean American made antique quilts! Anyone can sell quilts, but. Few can professionally hand launder them as we do!
