Antique Carved Horses From A Childrens Carousel
Two original childrens’ carved wooden fairground horses made by the Heyn company in Germany for a juvenile carousel in late 19th century England. The pair of small’Dobby’ horses made circa 1880 -1890 by German company Heyn would have hung on brass poles on an English Halstead’Swing-Out’ ride. These two small horses surviving from a larger set are in good sturdy condition in their old slightly worn paintwork with various small imperfections from age and usage. In the late 19th century Heyn of Germany made some of thec earliest juvenile horses for showmen in Great Britain before Orton & Spooner in Burton-on-Trent and Anderson in Bristol had begun to carve them. These are two examples, which Heyn carved to be viewed running clockwise as was the custom in Britain as opposed to anti-clockwise as in Germany France and America. One measures 35 inches long x 29 high, (89 x 74 cms). The other 38 long x 25 high. (97 x 64 cms). PRICE SHOWN IS FOR A SINGLE HORSE.
