Antique Circus Top Hat and Brown Leather Top Hat Box. The Hat Box has a brass plaque. There is also a brass lock with missing key. The leather box is lined in faded pink silk. The black silk top hat was made in Piccadilly London. It was in a trunk with lots of other circus costumes from the 1930’s. The ribbon and feather is later in date than the hat and box and was probably decorated for a show. I added the leather Chanel rose when I wore to a fancy dress party. The inner circumference around rim of hat is 54cm. The condition is very worn with fading and some small holes. I think this just adds to the decadent circus performer look. The silk of the hat and box lining has discolouration from age, please see photos which for part of the description. Please ask if you have any questions. Please view my other items. Condition: Excellent with vibrant colors. Printer/Publisher: Blanchard Press San Francisco. Age: March 22, 1930 originally printed on poster. Size: Poster size 35″x 39″ is wood framed 38″x 43″ with non-reflective glass, weight 20lbs. This rare original AL G. Barnes circus poster printed by Blanchard press in San Francisco is in remarkable condition for an 88 year original old poster. The poster was accompanied by a lower portion add-on describing when and where the circus would be held. It looks as if the top of the poster was a fixed ad printed earlier and the bottom was added for each new city the circus was to perform in. In the case of this poster, the circus was to be held in Baldwin Park, California on Sunday, March 22, 1930. In spite of a drastic train crash in July 1930, The AL. Barnes Circus traveled across the country until 1938 (Circus History. Org). This circus poster was dry mounted. It was also wood framed. And displayed in a controlled environment for 45 years.
