Features: rare cabinet card original photograph featuring Reta Stirk with her bicycle. She was from the Stirk family which was a renown bicycle circus family act. The Stirks were the leaders in trick riding and bicycle stunts in the variety world in the late 19th-early 20th centuries. (Her sister Minnie was also a juggler and balancer). Originating in England, they first came to the U. To perform at Tony Pastor’s in 1881, the first troupe of bicycle riders to perform in America. Essentially, following this engagement, the family just stayed, performing with Barnum, Baily & Hutchison; then Sells Brothers; then Great Wallace’s over the next 27 years. Sadly two of the children died young. Flora (born 1886) died at age 11. Denny (born 1869) formed an aerial act called Stirk and Zeno shortly after arriving in the U. And died of pneumonia at age 34. Size: approximately 6 1/2″ x 4 1/4″. Condition report: some wear and minor staining or off color. Some light creasing or folding along edges. We offer 100% satisfaction guaranty on all items. Thank you for you business!

Antique CABINET CARD Photograph. Photographer: Obermiiller & Son. Location: New York, New York. Marie Bayrooty was the only female member of the Bayrooty Brothers Oriental Troupe, who performed on the Barnum and Bailey Circus sideshow. A famous’whirling dervish,’ – as members of the Mevlevi Order are known colloquially – she broke a record by whirling 2,990 times in 37 minutes in 1906, per the The New York Times, who described her as of Syrian descent. The Times, in the typically dismissive tone of the day, describe her performance as such: Mary Bayrooty, the Syrian girl who last year whirled for thirty-two minutes without cessation, making something like 2,240 revolutions established a new record yesterday afternoon in Barnum & Bailey’s Freak Hall. She made 2,990 twirls in thirty-seven minutes. This is a new world record. When the last note died and the last whirl had been achieved, Marie was fresh as paint. She ran across the floor to the nearest reporter and pinned a rose on the lapel of his coat, remaining until her fame had been suitably sounded. Then she sat down and gave the other freaks a chance. New York Times, April 2, 1906. 6.5″ x 4.25″. Cabinet card is in antique condition with some wear. Please contact to make arrangements.

Antique Cabinet Card Francesco Lentini Sideshow Circus Performer Photo Freak
Antique Cabinet Card Francesco Lentini Sideshow Circus Performer Photo Freak. Extremely rare cabinet card of circus / sideshow performer, Francesco Lentini, The Three-Legged Man. He was born in 1889, contrary to what the information on the card reads. He would have been 10 years old in this photograph making this one of the earliest photos of Lentini. There are some creases and edge wear to the card. Pictures serve as additional description and provide accurate measurements. Please contact me with any questions or for more photos.
