An antique circa 1920s German composition or paper mache Camel pull along toy. This toy measures 5.25″ tall, 6″ long and the platform is 2 wide. Has all the wheels, both ears, tail and legs. A little paint loss on one side of the neck and side, maybe where a saddle was originally attached? Also a bit of glue or paint on top of the platform. Overall in beautiful shape for its age as it was kept in storage for decades. Let me know if you have any questions.
Original antique 1920s sideshow mabel darpel texas circus tent tattoo photo 2×3. Small photo, 2.15×2.9 inches. This was during her sideshow days circa 1920s with her daughter at her dad’s kennedy shows. Original photo collected by Mabel darpel in 1920s. This is not any sort of recent reproduction. He had a body suit of beautiful tattoos that were put on by Bert Grimm or William Grimshaw or both (and probably others) sometime in the late 1910s. Around that same time he began tattooing on sideshows and carnivals. It was at one of William Kennedy’s sideshows where Joe met Mabel Kennedy (William’s daughter) where Joe was sideshow manager. Mabel was quite an accomplished sideshow performer as psychic, knife thrower and horse rider and later an accomplished tattooer herself. Later they were married in a carnival and they became tattooing partners, traveling with sideshows and operating tattoo shops in Virginia, Kansas and finally in Texas for many years. Joe and Mabel both painted beautiful tattoo flash that is very rare, loved and sought after by serious collectors. Condition is excellent with very gold with minor wear, age toning. Photo was glued in her album and some of that remnant is still on back of the photo. Last photo on listing is a watermarked 300 and 2400 dpi scan collage of the photo. See photos as they are part of description. Images on listing are photos of the actual item itself. +have lots of tattoo items, priced to sell. Charming European Art Nouveau divided wood box with hand painted Harlequin trapeze troupe, c 1920’s. Satin interior and inside of lid. It still looks amazing and the acrobats are well-preserved, but it does look like a vintage 20’s box with some lines and scratches throughout. The photos show the imperfections.
So many scenes playing out. Unusual perspective to the photograph looking UP to the animal. Tremendous focus, but also joy in his eyes. The boys on either side are terrified, while the one just behind is fascinated. No context to tease out the intent here, other than he has an audience. Sepia 5 x 7 w/ corner damage top left that does not affect subject.
The photographer is shaking hard enough that only the snake’s open jaws are in focus. A dime museum, travel or carnival act makes sense w/ two unscrupulous and terrified businessmen. Unmounted 7 x 11 w/ edge & corner chips.
