1870s-1880's TINTYPE WOOD CARVER CIRCUS WAGONS OR ARCHITECTURAL 3 1/2 x 2 5/16
Original circa 1870’s-1880’s tintype of a man with numerous wood carving tools. He stands next to a table which holds an elaborate wood carving that he has been working on. The carving appears to be either a component of a circus wagon or an architectural element for a building. Measures 3 1/2 inches by 2 5/16 inches. There are assorted smooth bends as usually found on most tintypes. There is a tiny bit of wear at the bottom border. This interesting photo came from an old Pennsylvania collection of tintypes which was formed over several decades. This item is inventory #9933. Is an estimate and the actual cost may differ. This is a Fantastic and Genuine Historic Antique 19th Century Cabinet Card photograph of one of the most legendary Circus Sideshow Freak performers alongside a turbaned dwarf sidekick. Born in India, Mr. Perumal Sami was born with a parasitic twin. An extremely rare and popular condition in sideshows and carnivals, he thrived financially in spite of a supposedly aggressive temperament. Depending on the venue where exhibited, the parasitic twin was not always billed under the same name. Sami referred to the twin as “Syrius”. This was probably because he had been a follower of astrology since childhood. The dwarf sidekick was named Soopromanien Munsamy. Perumal Sami was still quite young when this photo was taken. Allegedly, his career was relatively short lived as the disease of alcoholism gradually crept into his life. The Cabinet Card Photo is in very good vintage condition with only some normal minor surface wear (routine corner wear on backing). It measures approximately 4 ½ x 6 ½ inches! A great and highly sought after picture to be sure. FANTASTIC CLASSIC 19th CENTURY CIRCUS IMAGE! 1870's-1880's CIRCUS ACROBAT, CLOWN, OR POSSIBLY JESTER TINTYPE 3 1/2 x 2 3/8
Original circa 1870’s-1880’s tintype photo showing a man wearing a loose costume with diamond shaped decorations all over his costume. Also, he wears a tight cloth hat. From his outfit we are guessing that he was in the circus. We are thinking that he was probably an acrobat in the circus or a jester or clown. But, we are not certain. Measures 3 1/2 inches by 2 3/8 inches. There are a few minor flaws as usually found on most tintypes. The back shows minor age. There is a thin raised line below the man’s feet on the background. This is in the surface of the emulsion & occurred in the making. Otherwise, the front is very smooth & in nicer condition than most tintypes that are found. At the lower right edge area there is a lighter area in the photo. In the scan this looks like a small area missing off of the surface. But, in reality this is as made, & is a piece of cloth showing in the background when the photo was taken. This interesting photo came from an old Pennsylvania collection of tintypes which was formed over several decades. This item is inventory #9940. Is an estimate and the actual cost may differ.
