Original circa 1870’s-1880’s tintype of a man with numerous wood carving tools. He stands next to a table which holds an elaborate wood carving that he has been working on. The carving appears to be either a component of a circus wagon or an architectural element for a building. Measures 3 1/2 inches by 2 5/16 inches. There are assorted smooth bends as usually found on most tintypes. There is a tiny bit of wear at the bottom border. This interesting photo came from an old Pennsylvania collection of tintypes which was formed over several decades. This item is inventory #9933. Is an estimate and the actual cost may differ. EXTREMELY RARE AND LARGE. NORTH WIND or GARGOYLE FACE. BRONZE OR BRASS DOORKNOCKER. IN THE VICTORIAN TASTE. Estimated circa 1880’s – 1890’s… TYPICAL OF THE VICTORIAN ERA. THIS TESTAMENT TO VICTORIAN ERA HISTORY MEASURES AN IMPRESSIVE. 8.00 EIGHT INCHES TALL. 4.50 FOUR AND ONE HALF INCHES WIDE. 2.25 TWO AND ONE QUARTER INCHES DEEP. MOUNTING BOLT 2.50 INCHES LONG.. MUST HAVE BEEN ON A LARGE THICK DOOR. HEAVY CAST BRONZE OR BRASS. VERY DETAILED ECCENTRIC AND WHIMSICAL CASTING OF GARGOYLE OR NORTH WIND FACE OR VISAGE. LARGE HEAVY KNOCKER ARM. AND A KNOCK LOUD ENOUGH TO AWAKEN THE SPIRITS OF AGES PAST. DUSTY AND WITH TARNISH AND WEATHERING. AND A BEAUTIFUL MELLOWED PATINA THAT ONLY COMES WITH TRUE AGE AND USE. AND SHOWS AGE RELATED WEAR AND USAGE. SEE ALL PHOTOS AS THEY ARE THE BEST INDICATION OF CONDITION. THIS DOORKNOCKER WAS REMOVED FROM A GRAND VICTORIAN HOME. IN THE HISTORIC BUNKER HILL DISTRICT OF LOS ANGELES, CALIF. WHERE I GREW UP. THAT WAS (UNFORTUNATELY) DEMOLISHED IN THE EARLY 1950’s. I TRULY BELIEVE THAT EVERY OLD OBJECT HAS A STORY TO TELL.. AND OH, WHAT STORIES THIS DOORKNOCKER COULD SPEAK. The Railing is 5 feet long, 43″ tall total height, 38″ railing, 5 lip. It has an oval center, that would have held a name or monogram. It has diagonal mounting holes, From top to bottom holes are 19 apart diagonal. Extremely unique, great piece of history. Could be used in so many ways, inside outside.
