Antique Carnival or Circus Shooting Target Hammered Elephant
Antique Carnival or Circus Shooting Target Hammered Elephant. A delightful unusual find of an antique steel elephant soldered on a steel platform, all hand done. Until the end of the 19th century, the only welding process was forge welding, which blacksmiths had used for millennia to join steel by heating and hammering. The aged patina on the steel gives the elephant a lovely primitive antique look. Very neat and unusual steel statue that is a blacksmith creation. This may be a turn of the century circus or carnival shooting target practice animal. Not sure of that, I just cannot image what it was made for. This elephant has been hand made by a skillful blacksmith with hand folded and hand molded steel. There is just enough areas of rust to add antiquity. Lots of rust with oxidation scattered about. I have not cleaned this elephant and is in the same condition as found, a little dusty. Any deep cleaning is left up to you in case you want to retain the antique patina. Steel may require extra cleaning. Stands well on its platform, and will not tip over. Measures 13- 1/’2″ long at bottom base and 13-1/4″ height of raised trunk, approx. 1-1/2 thick at torso. This is a nice antique primitive elephant, country collectible for your rustic home decor. Because of the size there is a spot for it. I would date this to be turn of the century or earlier. A lovely old elephant statue and worthy of one’s antique elephant collection. Our antiques are collectible and are not new and not reproductions, and have lived a long and eventful life and sometimes developing flaws. Therefore, use and wear should be expected with these items, unless stated in description. We do not clean or alter unless stated in listing, and most times have been in storage for many decades picking up old age storage oxidation spots. Waino & Plutano Wild Men of Borneo Barnum Circus Sideshow Cabinet Photo Antique
This antique cabinet photo features the Wild Men of Borneo, Waino & Plutano, seen in Barnum Circus Sideshow. The photo is from the 1890s and was manufactured in the United States at the Morris studio, 16 6th Street, Pittsburgh, Pa. It is a unique piece of historical memorabilia that would make a great addition to any collection of circus and carnival memorabilia. The photo captures the essence of the circus sideshow in the late nineteenth century. Waino and Plutano were each 40 inches (100 centimeters) tall and weighed about 45 pounds (20 kg), yet could perform feats of great strength, such as lifting heavy weights and wrestling with audience members on stage. Discovered and promoted by a traveling showman known as Doctor Warner in 1852, Hiram and Barney were given new names, Waino and Plutanor, and a sensational backstory – they were said to be from the island of. Where they had been captured after a great struggle with armed sailors. They initially had modest success, but at least one newspaper believed them to be dwarves from the United States. The two were exhibited at state fairs across the United States. In the 1860 census they were living in. In the household of Henry Harvey, a showman. At some point in the next few years management of the pair was transferred to a relative of Doctor Warner, Hanford A.

Original antique 1920s sideshow mabel darpel texas circus tent tattoo photo 2x3
Original antique 1920s sideshow mabel darpel texas circus tent tattoo photo 2×3. Small photo, 2.15×2.9 inches. This was during her sideshow days circa 1920s with her daughter at her dad’s kennedy shows. Original photo collected by Mabel darpel in 1920s. This is not any sort of recent reproduction. He had a body suit of beautiful tattoos that were put on by Bert Grimm or William Grimshaw or both (and probably others) sometime in the late 1910s. Around that same time he began tattooing on sideshows and carnivals. It was at one of William Kennedy’s sideshows where Joe met Mabel Kennedy (William’s daughter) where Joe was sideshow manager. Mabel was quite an accomplished sideshow performer as psychic, knife thrower and horse rider and later an accomplished tattooer herself. Later they were married in a carnival and they became tattooing partners, traveling with sideshows and operating tattoo shops in Virginia, Kansas and finally in Texas for many years. Joe and Mabel both painted beautiful tattoo flash that is very rare, loved and sought after by serious collectors. Condition is excellent with very gold with minor wear, age toning. Photo was glued in her album and some of that remnant is still on back of the photo. Last photo on listing is a watermarked 300 and 2400 dpi scan collage of the photo. See photos as they are part of description. Images on listing are photos of the actual item itself. +have lots of tattoo items, priced to sell. Ask any questions, inquire about other related items. +grateful for your business. I always add at least one small gift to your order.
