All questions are answered promptly and honestly. Poly chrome antique carved wooden finials. Late 1800’s / early 1900’s. A pair of wooden poly chrome antique carved finials with stepped plinths. A pair of freestanding early carvings with an unique look. I suspect they started life related to the circus or carnival. Old grunge surface having dry paint in an oxblood red, blueish green and a gold color that has sort of old gold gilt like appearance. The original gesso base covering can be seen peeping through where the paint is missing giving a nice overall look.. No major damage, a small corner section on a plinth has come loose years ago but someone thought well enough to save the piece {see photos}. A pair of wonderful decorative folk art objects. Found in an outbuilding of a recent estate.. A fresh New England find. Still dirty and tad dusty. Truly a great find…. Measurements: Base 7″ x 7″ x 15-1/2 Tall. Antique Carved Wooden H C Evans Race Horse Frm Gambling Carnival Amusement Park
This is a race horse that I believe is from an H C Evans table horse race game. The game was large table top size with 4 or 5 circular lanes each with a colorful carved and painted horse. I have only ever seen one complete game but have seen several of these horses. This one is in average condition with of course paint wear but the number 2 and King are very readable. These games were popular from the late 1800’s to the 1930’s. This particular carving is different from some others I have seen, it is sort of boxy. I think this could be an earlier version. The piece is completely intact. The horse is 16″ long and stands 12″ high on the display stand we created.
