RARE – FRAMED CIRCUS PRINT “GENERAL TOM THUMB” TAKEN FROM DAGUERREOTYPE BY JOHN PLUMBE – You are considering a wonderful framed limited edition print from the mid-1800’s by Currier and entered into Congress in 1849. The central image of General Tom Thumb as a child standing on an ornate chair was taken from a daguerreotype by the legendary John Plumbe. You can view this information in my detailed listing photos. What makes this print exceptional in my opinion is the color additions to the print and the surrounding images of Tom Thumb dressed in various costumes of the characters he portrayed in his performances. On a historical note… General Tom Thumb was one of the most successful circus performers during the 19th Century around the world. The General was actually the cousin of P. Good luck to all my fellow early American circus collectors landing this rarely offered image. CONDITION: Please view my detailed scan for the actual condition of the image and as part of my description. Bo th the original print and frame are in excellent antique condition. The actual print and coloration remains boldly printed. The print has some minor wear and with a bit of staining seen near the bottom portion of the print. The frame has minor wear, was re-backed many years ago and has newer hardware to hang the image. I have included the last two listing photos to show the dimensions of the framed artwork. Overall, you are considering a rare 19th Century circus print containing Barnum’s largest grossing attraction during his lifetime, Mr. Charles Stratton aka Tom Thumb. Very Rare Circus CDV Chang & Eng Bunker Famous Barnum Siamese Twins Siam

Barnum’s most famous Siamese twins, Chang & Eng Bunker. In this circus collectable, you can clearly see the ligament at their abdomen that connected these two brothers. A previous owner at one point actually inscribed at the bottom of the mount with a metal stylist the words, “Siam Twins” which helps to date this CDV to a very early example. Like all of the CDV’s taken of the twins, there is no back mark or photographer. You are considering a rare photo of the most famous Siamese twins in history. Brustad died at the young age of 45. Some attribute his death to Acromegaly, while others claim the more likely cause to have been a heart attack. This happens to be one of the nicest examples of this photo we have seen. In contrast to this very fine photo, many others are much faded or badly damaged. Antique CARTE DE VISITE (CDV) Photograph. Photography Studio: Brand’s Art Gallery. Subject: Arthur James Caley (1824 – February 12, 1889) was known professionally as Colonel Routh Goshen. Goshen gained fame by appearing in P. S American Museum and Barnum? S Circus as the tallest man in the world. His advertised measurements were 7? And 620 pounds, when in reality, he was most likely no more than 7? This CDV displays the large man gazing solemnly at the viewer from a seated position dressed as his Middle Eastern alias. His military uniform features elaborate braided epaulettes, various medals, a plumed helmet and a decorative sword. Appears to be signed by Colonel Routh Goshen in pencil on back. 4.25″ x 2.5″.
