Were delighted to offer for sale this wonderful early 20th century life size woolen donkey. This came to us from a lovely Connecticut estate of long time circus memorabilia collectors. We originally believed we were looking at an early Steiff ride on toy and albeit there are similarities, this example proves much more complex and features different construction techniques. This would have originally been mounted on an iron base as evident from under the hooves. The body is wool over what looks to be a fiberglass or composite frame. The tail possess it’s original spring and overall the donkey is in great condition. We note minimal discoloration in the white wool with a small loss to the underbelly. The donkey measures 56″ from head to tail, 16″ wide and stands 46 tall.
