An extremely rare 16 panel chalk manner lithograph by Thomas & Wylie of New York, NY circa early to mid 1890s measuring approximately 26 1/2 x 36 inches. This item was probably a salesman sampler based on its general nature and its portability in the 7 1/8 X 9 3/4 inch hand colored album. African Americans are respectfully represented in this piece as equal patrons. Country Circus was a play by Jefferson, Klaw and Erlanger. Erlanger, began a five weeks’ season on March 28. The prominent features of this play were the circus parade and the performance in the ring, which introduced some of the best riders and gymnasts known to the profession. Some fraying and curling most notably on corner center panels and left edge as pictured with a vertical stable break on upper left 4 panel quadrant as pictured.
