Available for sale is an authentic elephant and calliope wagon from Steiff from1986 as part of the Golden Age of the Circus collection. It is in its original box which shows age-appropriate wear and discoloration, but the elephant and calliope are perfect as they have never been out of the box. NOTE: It has been pointed out to me that the top half of the bell which is attached to the elephant’s red blanket seems to be corroded and is no longer shiny. The Wheeled Elephant is a careful reproduction, of one discovered in the Steiff archives. It is 22cm tall and non jointed, sewn from a sumptuous, grey mohair with a longer pile for his tail tuft, plus wool felt for his feet and trunk end. He has glossy, glass eyes, smooth white tusks and delicate hand shading, to define and shape. He wears a red leather crown harness, with reins, plus a red and yellow wool felt saddle cloth, both of which are adorned with bells. To finish, he stands upon a metal axis attached to a square frame work, with a working wheel at each corner. A red pull cord helps to move him along.
