Up for sale is this great rare mid-century paper mache mask made by the artist, Sal Terracina. Sal Terracina was born in 1910 and died in 1995. He was a rather interesting character, besides being a mask maker he was also a mind-reader, photographer, pianist, and a member of the mob. In his youth he was touted as the world’s youngest mind reader. He was a big figure in the Key West gay scene and in the mid 20th century made masks for the traveling carnival known as, The World of Mirth. I’m not sure if he made this mask for The World of Mirth or not, or if he made it a little after his involvement with the carnival. The mask is overall in good condition with minor wear as illustrated in the photos. The metal headdress shifts up and down a little bit when pulled on. The mask measures approximately 13 inches high and 11.5 inches wide. All in all a great vintage hand made paper mache mask by a really interesting artist. Please look at the photos to note the condition and message me with any questions you might have.
