He began studies in 1938 at the Academy of Graphic Arts under the guidance of Lino Spilimbergo, Roberto Michetti and Enrique de Larrañaga. She attended Vicente Puig’s workshop and since 1939 studied drawing and painting in nude with a live model under Richard Hall. In 1940 he traveled throughout Argentina and neighboring countries along with his colleagues Fidel Santamaría and Oscar Soldati. Gantes stood out in the portrait painting prominent characters and also in the composition of various subjects. In 1941 he studied landscape painting and exhibited in 1942 at the Müller Gallery in Montevideo and at the Hotel Carrasco. In 1945 he traveled on a scholarship from the Argentine Government to the United States, exhibiting in New York, Dallas and Texas and portraying characters such as Ingrid Bergman.
