This would have been one of their last travelling programs before their combination with Barnum & Bailey which happened in 1918. Flag is made of a dull pinkish/orange felted wool and measures about 28″ long and is about 10.5″ wide at the left end (flag tapers left to right), a large-ish piece for the time period. The integrity of the wool is still in good shape though the color has likely faded over time. There are some small stain spots here and there as seen in the photos (please see all close-ups) but grossly intact with no holes. There are two green felt ties affixed to the left end which are in good shape; these are stitched on with a strip of grey/white wool felt. Also stitched into the back is a makers label that reads “Tipp Novelty Co, TIPPECANOE CITY, O” (this company was a very active producer of novelty and toy items in the early 1900s, eventually becoming one of the largest suppliers in the Midwest for fairs, carnivals, circuses, and toy shops). Label is in decent shape with some fading to printed lettering as well as a bit of loss of material on the righthand side. The flag’s design is screen printed on to the felt. Lettering and imagery is off-white with some pink highlights to figures still remaining (the Solomon/Sheba design was likely originally in full color; I have seen two very similar examples from prior years with full color printed motifs with white lettering so this likely has faded/washed out over time). There is some cracking to the print visible in close-up as shown.
