This is a unique antique circus parade bandwagon, complete with 8 musicians and a driver, pulled by 6 horses on a 4 wheeled red cart. The red and gold bandwagon has an image of a womans face in a circle on the middle of both of the wagons sides, flanked by a harp entwined with clarinets, and a jester on each side of the womans face. The bandwagon contains a driver, a bass drum player, a cymbals player, 2 trumpet players, a trombone player, and 3 clarinet/woodwind players. There are 6 white horses on the red cart with red bridles and red ribbon reins. Im estimating the age of this toy to be the mid to late 1800s. 26″ x 4″ x 7.5. The condition of this toy is good. There is paint wear on all of the horses. The back-left horse has broken legs. The red ribbon reins are only partially intact. The bandwagon has paint and age damage on the inside of all the wheels, but the outside of the wheels look good. There is a paint damage on the front left top corner, the front right corner, and the back right of the wagon. There are also a couple paint chips under the woman on the right side of the wagon. The condition of the driver and musicians vary. It does look like someone repainted at least the trombone of the trombone player, and possibly that musician and one other. The paint on two of the musicians is worn. Paint is worn on the front left wheel of the horse cart. The connection between the horse cart and the bandwagon is broken, but they do fit together in a sitting position. Please see the photos for details. I would appreciate any information on this toy. My father was a band director with a passion for antique toys later in life. This was one of his most unusual items and I have been unable to determine much about its origins.
