Antique photograph pocket mirror. The Doll Family was an American quartet of sibling entertainers with dwarfism from Stolpen, Germany. They were popular performers as in circuses and sideshows in the United States from the mid-1910s until their retirement in 1958. The Doll Family also appeared briefly in films; they were best known as members of The Munchkins in the 1939 MGM film The Wizard of Oz. Measurements: 3 x 2. Chang, Chinese Giant, Cabinet Card, c. 1880, Acromegaly, Tall People, Freaks, Circus. Cabinet Card of Chang the Chinese Giant. London: London Stereoscopic and Photographic Company, First Edition. Photographic cabinet card of Chang (Zhan Shichai), approximately 110mm x 165mm in size, n. Slightly creased across photographic image from the left hand edge to about an inch across, just catching the chest of Chang, heavy vertical crease to centre of card leaving it bowed. An attractive image of Chang and an unknown man, the reverse is printed with the details of the London Stereoscopic and Photographic Company, with written details of Chang’s size, age and weight, (above 8 feet high, 33 years old and 26 stones in weight) with Chinese characters to either side. Chang apparently had acromegaly, and was advertised as’standing nearly nine feet high in his stocking feet’ (Bogdan,’Freak Show’, page 99), according to Wikipedia he retired in 1878 and lived out the rest of days in Bournemouth, but there is a Times article from 1880 noting that he is appearing with Brustad and Che-Mah at the Aquarium in London. Antique Schoenhut Humpty Dumpty Circus Tent with 28 People, Animals, Accessories
Full size Schoenhut Humpty Dumpty Circus tent, circa 1920’s. Comes with everything pictured which includes 8 people, 7 animals and 13 accessories. Tent is muslin with flags of all nations strung across the front. Acrobat rings and trapeze bar hang from the top. Wood base is 36″ x 24″ and has a wood circus ring, stands 35 tall. Tent was made to collapse into this base for storage. Paper labels of’Humpty Dumpty Circus’ on 3 sides of base, 2 of these labels almost gone and front one missing some paper, but still legible. Holes in the tent as pictured and the red curtain is completely torn on the bottom left side and torn on the right side. Torn at the top with something missing there. Not sure if that slit in the back is original or not, and some of the flags are torn or missing. Overall, very good condition. All people and animals stand except for one donkey, some stringing looser than others. Large elephant and sheep have glass eyes, others are painted. The smaller elephant has missing ears, 1 tusk and end of trunk missing. Please look at pictures carefully for condition, more pictures available for the asking.
