For your consideration are two rather interesting items. These two items are marqee tops for a mutoscopea, used in penny arcades to look at photographs from the 1906 SF earthquake. The are hand drawn posters on heavy board each with a photograph of the earthquake attached. One is out of the frame and one is framed. The unframed piece is 20 x 14 with many condition issues including soiling, discoloration, fading/toning, margin wear etc. It is, at best to be considered in fair condition. The framed piece is 23.5 x 15.5 in a period frame with trim that is blue that matches the poster. The photo in the frame is pretty good, but glued down for sure. The bold blue writing is on the poster that the photograph is glued to. The poster in this piece is very good. Really quite a interesting combination of photographic history, Americana, side show, and folk art. These seem to be one of kind pieces. 95 % of the items I sell are pre-owned, vintage, or antique. Every item I sell will have some signs of wear. The combination of photos and descriptions are my best effort to communicate the beauty, condition, and any defects. Your personal expertise regarding an item may well be greater than mine so feel free to ask questions regarding elements not mentioned in my description. Sometimes issues come up and there are delays, which I understand. Just let me know. Check with me re larger items. ORIGINAL / NOT A REPRODUCTION. This is a museum caliber find. Carte-de-visite photograph of “Admiral Dot”, the stage name of Leopold Kahn, a dwarf who performed in. This photograph by the studio of Henry Bradley and William Rulofson (soon to publish Muybridge’s Yosemite views) may have been taken during Kahn’s San Francisco debut as he appears much younger than in later photos. Clean with minimal edge wear and no signs of creasing. A unique piece of American history. Measures approximately 4.2 inches high by 2.5 inches wide. CDV is by Bradley & Rulofson. San Francisco, approximately 1869. Ships 1st class to the lower 48 states only. Born to San Francisco German-Jewish parents (his mother was committed to an insane asylum), Kahn began his career in 1869, while still a child, when he was “discovered” by Barnum while on vacation in California. Dubbing him Admiral Dot, “the El Dorado Elf”, Barnum dressed the boy in a diminutive Naval officer’s uniform and, exhibited him for three weeks to local residents before taking him to New York, where Kahn eventually settled, married and raised a family.
