Rare, animated Massachusetts carved & painted carousel chimpanzee with bright glass eyes, tongue out, & left paw raised. He is wearing patched green dungarees, a belt and a striped black & white vest. A floral painted seat completes this carving that allowed children to ride on his back. A central crack down the back, and side of the head and some paint loss is commensurate with age. Please see pictures for condition. Has not been cleaned at all yet… Would brighten up if you’d like to remove the patina quickly. Size: 23 x 12 x 27 in. This is not the version with the elongated face that supposedly was made in a later timeframe. A the smaller compact monkey head is incredibly hard to find (and just better).
