RARE Vintage CIRCUS THEME Wooden Wall Hanging w 2 Hand Painted Figures In Relief
This is an absolutely stunning, vintage wall hanging, made entirely of wood. It has a half circletop shaped frame, hand painted, which measures 16″ in height, with a base width of 24″, and a depth of 1. The background is a textured, flat colour transfer, which gives the impression of being an oil painting, and features a couple of clowns & the crowd watching the spectacle unfolding around the large archery target. On this target is the carved wood figure, raised in relief, of WILLIAM the CLOWN, who is tied to it, whilst holding an apple in each hand, balancing one on his cap, and squeezing one tight in his nether regions. Opposite him is the carved wood figure, also in relief, of TELL the MONKEY, who is standing on a large footed base, and firing arrows from his bow, hopefully at the apples. It really is an amusing take on the tale of William Tell shooting the apple off his son’s head. SO RARE, THAT I HAVEN’T SEEN ITS LIKE ANYWHERE, APART FROM MY OTHER LISTING, WHICH PRECEDES THIS ONE. If you have a question… Please do ask it. The item “RARE Vintage CIRCUS THEME Wooden Wall Hanging w 2 Hand Painted Figures In Relief” is in sale since Sunday, October 11, 2020. Dresser notes in his introduction that his monumental work was the first since Gould’s Birds of Europe (London: the Author, 1837) to cover the ornithology of.
