German Early 20th Century Clown Automaton. This is a wonderful rare and fully working German automaton clown. Probably originally used as a shop window display, the clown is made of papier mache and must date to the early part of the 20th Century. Wonderful workings inside, when switched on the right arm moves up and down and the head nods, which triggers the glass eyes to move on the counter weight. Wonderful piece of vintage shop display – the work has german inscriptions written on the clowns belly. Whilst fully working in its current state we would request it was re-wired professionaly for safety reasons. The clown measures 25″ tall x 19″ wide. The clothing appears original if a little grubby.
